The Amphitheater Public School District in Oro Valley, Arizona is home to two high schools: Ironwood Ridge High School (the Nighthawks) and Canyon Del Oro High School (the Dorados). Both of these schools received national recognition in Newsweek magazine’s list of the country’s top public schools. Those attending the schools strive to achieve those academic goals established at the national, state and district school levels. This can be accomplished by continuously improving their problem solving abilities as well as reading and writing skills. The usual curriculum of classes along with Pre AP and AP classes are offered. Special education classes and gifted programs are also taught. Technical school preparation and career and technical education offerings round out the schools’ curriculum. Both schools have their own baseball fields, running tracks and tennis courts so there is an extensive athletic program. Canyon Del Oro has been Decathlon Champions, Softball Champions, Baseball Champions and has participated in the Fulbright Program Exchange. It was also recently announced that the Amphitheater School District will receive more than $25 million in federal grants over the next five years.
