Tucson Historical Neighborhoods

Sam Hughes, Encanto Park, Poets Square…just a few of central Tucson’s historical neighborhhoods feature tasteful architecture with burnt adobe, mud adobe, and slump block from 1950- 1970.  The Pie Allen neighborhood between Downtown and the University of Arizona was named for a pioneer merchant. 

The Barrio Holly wood was named in 1930 by residents who lived in this Westside neighborhood. The barrio features home built with adobe, vibrant colors, dirt yards, no cooling systems, and was home to many movie stars. 

Eastside Tucson known for the loose acronym EI G. H. E. K. O. which stands for Green Hills, Harold Bell Wright, El Dorado, and Kingston Knolls.

University Area-Iron Horse was nicked named by the Native American Indians call ed the train. Railroad tacks run through part of the neighborhood’s southern area.

West Side- Barrio Kroeger Lane was named by Dr. Kroeger who gave medical care to poor people during the 1930’s and 40’s.

Marana- Honea Heights named after Ed Honea who was the first town council and the father of the current mayor, Ed Honea.
